A Shia Muslim community in Fareham, Hampshire has become one of the first members of the newly formed Mosques and Imams National Advisory Board – MINAB.
MINAB is a national advisory body, which aims to create good practice in the way mosques are overned and improve the quality of performance from their Imams.
It is an independent body, non-sectarian in its outlook, representing the diversity of Islam, and is broad-based, with an accountable system of representation. The aim is to address and improve standards in mosques and Islamic communities across the UK.
The Wessex Shia Ithna Asheri Jamaat based in Fareham, Hampshire have joined the advisory body in order to benefit from skilled advice and guidance in many areas including developing models good governance and how to make our religious centre a place for community cohesion, citizenship and dialogue.
Roshan Gangji, President of the Wessex Shia Ithna Asheri Jamaat said: “The formation of MINAB is a new chapter for the British Muslim community and I am proud that Wessex Shia Ithna Asheri Jamaat is one of the first members of this organization. The opportunities for making a difference within the Muslim community organization through the model of self regulation will enhance standards of governance and encourage good practice.”
He added: “We are absolutely delighted on the success of our application. This is the start of a new beginning for Muslims across Britain and we are thrilled to be part of an organization that will be setting the gold standards of good governance in our centers.”
