Mosques in the Community

community

The Mosques and Imams National Advisory Board has developed a guide for Mosques to highlight their role in the community.

Please download Mosques in the Community checklist.

As you know Mosques play an important role in their local communities, not only as centres for religious worship for Muslims, they also play a role in supporting local volunteering, social activity, social justice campaigns and supporting local economies since they provide a focal point for donations and giving and these support the less fortunate in society.

Through this project we aim to capture good practice to provide some guidance through case studies on how mosques can play key roles in their local areas by reaching out to other communities, resident’s groups (resident’s associations and neighbourhood watch groups), faith leaders, elected members and other key stakeholders in local areas.

The role of Mosque committees are varied and this includes providing strategic direction in the delivery of services to worshippers, providing oversight functions on capital build projects within the mosque, the recruitment of staff, fundraising and many others. The role of Mosque committees is therefore integral to this work, as is the role of the women and young people within the institution.

Fayaz Mughal from Faith Matters has been appointed as a consultant to assist MINAB on this piece of work.
