Rehabilitation for Ex- Offenders

 MINAB held a unique workshop for Mosques and Imams to provide support to rehabilitate ex-offenders. The workshop was delivered by the London Probation Trust and the MINAB on Wednesday 16th March 2011 at the Muslim College.

The aim was to bridge the gaps in provisions and support for ex-offenders by equipping Mosques and Imams to take a leading role in rehabilitation.

Outline for the day was as followed:

1. Introductions and purpose of training

  • To raise awareness about the work of London Probation Trust(LPT)
  • To explore way in which Mosques could work with LPT to assisting the rehabilitation of offenders and the protection of the public.

2.    LPT, what we do why we do it and what we need to do better?

  • The aims objectives and vision of LPT.                                                                                                                                                       
  • The Diversity team and The Extremist Unit  in LPT.

3.    What is rehabilitation - court orders and licence conditions vs building constructive relationships that challenge offending and work to reintegrate those charged with offences.

4.    How can faith communities help us achieve our aims to assist in rehabilitation?

  • Success stories and questions

Over 30 people attended this event from different backgrounds, making the event very successful. The general feedback from the participants are very positive, they would like more events in this nature as it is something different and new.
